NYSPHSAA Adjusts Start Times to State Championships This Weekend

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Inc. (NYSPHSAA) is making changes to the start times of several State Championship events to be contested on Saturday March 3. The changes are necessary because of the major snow storm that has affected much of New York State.

Event starts will be delayed by four hours at the Track and Field State Championships at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, the Cheerleading State Championships at the SRC Arena in Syracuse, the Gymnastics State Championships at Cold Spring Harbor High School, and the Rifle Regional Championship at West Point.

There will no changes to the schedule at the Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow.

The new start times on Saturday March 3rd are as follows:

  • Track and Field, Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, 12:45 p.m.
  • Cheerleading, SRC Arena, Syracuse, 1:00 p.m.
  • Rifle Regional Championship, West Point, 1:00 p.m.
  • Gymnastics, Cold Spring Harbor High School, 2:00 p.m.
  • Boys Swimming and Diving (No Changes), 10:30 a.m. (Friday and Saturday)

“We feel like delaying these events by four hours gives our student-athletes and coaches the best opportunity to get to the venues safely and still compete for a Championship”, Robert Zayas NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “This storm has impacted a large portion of the state, and we want to allow people extra time to travel to our State and Regional Championships. We want to thank the venues for allowing us to adjust the schedules and working with us to have the most successful Championships possible.”
