Two from Section XI Represent Puerto Rico in Olympics
Arella Guirantes and Brianna Jones, two former Section XI student-athletes, are playing together on the Puerto Rican women’s basketball team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Guirantes attended Bellport High School and was a first-round pick with the LA Sparks in the 2022 WBNA Draft.
Jones, who plays professionally in Saudi Arabia, grew up in North Babylon.
They were both All-Long Island selections in high school.
Kayla Gilmore Breaks William Floyd Girls Basketball Scoring Record
Congrats to William Floyd’s Kayla Gilmore, who broke the girls’ varsity basketball program’s all-time points scored record.
Gilmore passed Melissa D’Amico when she reached career point 1,187 1,187th career point, surpassing the previous record held by Melissa Graves (formerly D’Amico), the current head basketball coach of the Boston University women’s team.

Whitman Basketball Honors Coach Ed Garrone
The Walt Whitman girls hoops team honored former coach Ed Garrone in style with a 57-12 win over Riverhead.
Many of Garrone’s former football and basketball players celebrated his 52-year career and the impact he made.
All 11 players scored for the Wildcats.

Mt Sinai girls basketball has two thousand point scorers.
