Congratulations to Walt Whitman on winning the first Section XI flag football championship!
They came up short against Bellmore-Merrick in the Long Island title game at the New York Jets’ practice facility, but it was a very memorable season.
Section XI is looking forward to growth in the game for years to come.

TU4C challenged L.I. Athletes to be a Sports Hero to a cause or someone in need this 2022 Spring Season to see how big of an IMPACT we could make together in our L.I. Communities!
All those who entered have a chance to receive a scholarship or grant.
$5,000 in Scholarships & Grants will be awarded!
First Place Winner receives a $3,000 scholarship or grant.
Second Place Winner receives a $1,500 scholarship or grant.
Third Place Winner receives a $500 scholarship or grant.

Congratulations to Mount Sinai’s Joey Spallina on breaking Nick Galasso’s Long Island high school lacrosse scoring record!
Spallina, who is committed to play at Syracuse in the fall, has 501 career points and counting.
The Mustangs won the Section XI Class C championship and advance to the Long Island title game on June 4 at 5:30 p.m.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Inc. (NYSPHSAA) announces its Spring 2022 scholar-athlete teams and number of individuals.
For Spring 2022, NYSPHSAA recognized 2,762 Scholar-Athlete teams and 41,441 individuals. A total of 568 schools across the state participated in the Scholar-Athlete program which honors schools each of the seasons there is interscholastic competition.
“The Association is proud to see over 41,000 student-athletes honored for their dedication to academics”, said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “The young men and women honored as Spring Scholar-Athletes have found the perfect balance of athletics and academics and we congratulate them on an outstanding job.”

For the 2021-22 school year (fall, winter and spring) there were a total of 9,468 scholar-athlete teams awarded. A total of 123,047 individuals were recognized as Scholar-Athletes for the 2021-22 school year.
School of Excellence and School of Distinction honors will be announced this summer to those schools who had superior academic achievements within their sports teams. Schools must apply to be recognized. Deadline to apply is Thursday, June 30th.
To qualify as a School of Distinction a school must have 100% of their varsity programs qualified for and received the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award. To receive School of Excellence status a school must have at least 75% of their varsity programs qualified for and received the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award.
While Section XI wishes you a happy and healthy Memorial Day Weekend, please keep in mind the men and women who gave their lives protecting our freedom and nation! We remember you today, this weekend and forever.
On May 19 the Suffolk County Athletic Administrators Association held its annual luncheon. Several Section XI athletic directors were recognized for their service and dedication.
