Brentwood Celebrates Hoppey’s Legacy with Annual Event

Brentwood High School recently hosted the first Bob Hoppey High School Lacrosse Classic.

This particular day was about honoring the memory of the late great Hall of Fame coach, Bob Hoppey, while showcasing the game at two very distinct levels. The goal was to have eight vastly different lacrosse communities come together in order to grow the game, while allowing the participants to appreciate and admire their peers and other communities.

The day was truly a celebration of the character and commitment that Coach Hoppey had for the Brentwood community and lacrosse at-large.

Schools who participated were Brentwood, Deer Park, Riverhead, Northport, Smithtown East, Massapequa, East Meadow and Mattituck-Greenport-Southold.

Section XI Alumni: Coan Shows More Improvement in Wisconsin Spring Game

Sayville native Jack Coan has always been a fast learner, but when you get to the big time Division I level of football that he’s at, it’s not easy to progress.

For Coan, it’s the same old story though, another season, another chance to improve and shine.

“I definitely know a lot more, and I’m so much more comfortable than I was last spring,” Coan told LandOf10.com “I kind of actually know what I’m doing this spring.”

Coan, who is headed into his sophomore season next fall, will be the backup to starter Alex Hornibrook.

#SectionXITBT: Horseshoe Pitching in 1940

Before you think it, no, Section XI does not have a sanctioned “horseshoe pitching” event, and neither does the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, but this photo is too unique not to feature!

It was a different era in 1940 that’s for sure!

Check out this image above from Westhampton Beach when the school won the Suffolk County Horseshoe Pitching championship.
