The playoffs began on Tuesday, May 17 and will continue through the beginning of June.

Congratulations to Samantha Jones from Smithtown West and John Boniberger from West Islip on being named Section XI Island Fedara Scholar-Athlete Performers for April.

Samantha has been a 5 year member of the Smithtown West Varsity Lacrosse Team. In addition to being a leader on the team, she is equally committed in the classroom. She’s involved with the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and student council. She currently holds a 4.22 GPA and her coaches say she is “the type of player every coach wishes they could have on their team”.

John is one of the leaders of West Islip’s Varsity Cross Country team. He balances his performance on the course with a rigorous course load including I.B. classes. His coaches say he is a mentor to all the younger members of the team and has volunteered over 200 hours in community service.

Both Samantha and John have been added to our Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Watch List and are finalist to receive our Section XI Scholar-Athlete
Scholarships.

Congratulations again to both!

Eastport South Manor officially launched its Unified Basketball program this week. Great job by their school community and athletic department to offer this opportunity for their student-athletes.

Congratulations to John Glenn’s  Amanda Howard for throwing a perfect game against Amityville and recording her 108th strikeout of the season!

Many Section XI student athletes competed at the famed Penn Relays last month.
