Rocky Point’s Alexandra Viera Wins Inaugural NYS Wrestling Title
Congratulations to Alexandra Viera from Rocky Point High School on winning the inaugural New York State Girls Wrestling Invitational at 126 pounds!

Alexandra Kelly Sets Princeton Triple Jump Record
Rocky Point native Alexandra Kelly is off to a strong start in her collegiate track and field career.
Last year’s New York State champion in the triple jump and the No. 1 ranked triple jumper in the country as a senior, Kelly made history at Princeton this season when she set a school record of 13.04m in the triple jump.
William Floyd Girls Track Records Setting School Records
William Floyd’s 4 x 800 meter relay team of Aaliyah Jordan, Destiny Samuels, Brianna Smith and Zariel Macchia broke a school record at the Ocean Breeze Holiday Festival, finishing with a time of 9:56.40.
At the same competition, Zariel Macchia recorded a No. 1 time in the nation running the two mile in 10:33.22.
With that performance, the 4 x 800 meter relay team qualified for the Millrose Games on January 11, which saw them finish second with a time of 9:46.23, another school record.
This effort has qualified them for the New Balance Nationals Indoor at the Armory in March.

Three from Section XI Tapped for NYS Girls Soccer HOF
The NYS Girls Soccer Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2023 and three individuals from Section XI made the list.
Katie O’Connor (Ward Melville), Phallon Tullis-Joyce (Longwood) and Scott Wallace (Harborfields) will be honored at a ceremony in September.
From the NYS Girls Soccer HOF website:
Katie O’Connor (Ward Melville HS, Class of 2015, midfield, Class AA), 2014 All-American, 2x All-Region, All-State 3 times, 1 section title, twice finalist. College – Duquense: all-time leader in goals, game winning goals, second all-time points and shots for Duquense.
Phallon Tullis-Joyce (Longwood HS, Class AA, goalie, Class of 2014), All-State 3rd team and 5th team, 5-years on varsity. College – Univ. Miami standout between the pipes. A 2022 NWSL National Title Champion with the OL REIGN and 2022 NWSL Goalkeeper of Year Finalist with the most clean sheets and saves this season having come back to the states via France’s Stade de Reims team of the French 1st Division 2019-2022.
Coach/Contributor Scott Wallace (Harborfields HS, Class A, 1991-Present, career record 304-189-50) – 1 state coach of the year, 1x NFHS Regional Coach of the Year, 5 section titles, 1 final four, contributed as Section. 11 rep (also SCGSCA President 1999-2009) for NYYSCOGS with 7 years for state rankings and All-State.
